Whole Earth Catalog
This poster is a reference to the Whole Earth Catalog which was a magazine published in the 1970s and 1980s that embodied the idea of educating and inspiring oneself through tools. It did that by presenting a diverese collection of items, according to its own statement selected by the following rules:
Anything that is …
- Useful as a tool,
- Relevant to independent education,
- High quality or low cost,
- Not already common knowledge,
- Easily available by mail.
Just like komputer.space its goal was to be an open »evaluation and access device«.
The Catalogs iconic cover shows a picture of the earth with the caption »The universe from planet Earth on a sunny day«, which was replicated here with komputer.space methods and tools.
Anything can be Your Canvas
the typography projected on the sphere says »anything can be your canvas«, capturing the idea of utilizing new canvases within the physical world in conjunction with digital media (for example by using a projector).
Gaussian Splatting
Gaussian Splatting as a relativley new method for 3D scanning environments has become a key technology throughout the project.
Pixel Filter
Digital filters (taken to extremes here) affect the images we see every day and thereby algorithmic processes shape our visual language.

Take up space!
Spatial thinking and embbeding computation into the physical environment has been a theme of the project in many ways. This is also connected to the workspace and its central role in creative practice.
This stands in contrast to the ongoing development of computers becoming smaller and smaller until they become devices that are completley independet of the spatial context.
A Video from 1970s shows how this development was already predicted in the early days fo computers, where they still filled up rooms due to technical restrictions. This was the inspiration for this poster, which claims to take back this lost (or rather won) space, despite technical progress tempting us to completley give it up. Designing computational devices that make use of the environment they are used in — in favor of the creative process.
The typography was set in the type komputer tool and projected onto a slanted surface in real space.
